CHARITIES WE SUPPORT IN THE PARISH OF HARDINGTON VALE
The Parish supports three charities – one international, one national and one local. Here are the current charities we are supporting:-
Our International charity is currently ASHA meaning ‘hope’ in Hindi, ASHA has been helping the slum dwellers of Delhi since 1988, when Dr Kiran Martin started treating cholera victims who were too poor or culturally constrained to seek help elsewhere. Now over 700,000 residents in 95 slum colonies have access to essential medical care and treatment with Asha, as well as a wide range of other support and benefits to help improve peoples’ lives and bring them ‘hope’.
SAFE PASSAGE UK Every year thousands of child refugees arrive in Europe, almost half of them are unaccompanied and as a result are at risk of being abused and trafficked. Yet many of these children have a legal right to travel safely to a place of sanctuary. With the charity support they can access their rights. Unaccompanied child refugees are found all over Europe, but certain regions have higher concentrations of vulnerable minors. The Safe Passage head office is based in London but we also have established presence in France and Greece.
FOCUS FROME with offices in Frome and Bath, Focus Frome is based in the Cottage on the forecourt of St John’s Church. This peaceful setting offers a safe, open space for those in need in the area. A team of professional counsellors are available for adults, couples, families, children and young people who might be feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, angry, confused, traumatised, or experiencing an eating disorder, loss and grief.
