The Parish is delighted to welcome our new curate, Jo Robinson. Jo is now residing in Norton St Philip. The licensing service for Jo was held on 28 June which you can view below.
Here’s what Jo says to introduce herself.
Hello! I’m finally here! The decision to serve my curacy in Hardington Vale Parish was made back in September last year, and it’s been a long wait, so I’m really excited to be here at last! I’m hoping that by the time you read this, social distancing will have relaxed and I will be able to meet you all face to face!
For the last 21 months I have been living and studying at Trinity College in Bristol and, as part of my ordination training, I did a placement in a rural parish. I have mostly lived in big cities and so it was a very different experience, but I loved the sense of community and the opportunity to get alongside people in everyday life. When Bath and Wells Diocese offered me a curacy in Hardington Vale and I read the parish profile I was excited as I could sense it was a very welcoming and active community. I met Caroline and heard more about the opportunities and I knew it was the right place for me.
As I mentioned – I have lived in cities – I grew up in Hong Kong, returning to the UK to study psychology at Warwick University where I became a Christian. I then taught in East London for a few years before going abroad to teach English in two big cities in mainland China. Alongside teaching I worked in a project for women involved in the sex industry. After nineteen years in China I returned to the UK, and was offered a job working as a pastoral minister in my church, Holy Trinity, Combe Down in Bath. When several people in my church suggested that I consider ordained ministry that was the start to the process which has now led me to serve the church and community here.
I have family nearby – my mother lives in Wells and my sister lives with her family in Bristol. My niece and nephews love my Chinese cooking, especially my dumplings so hopefully they will be regular visitors – I really enjoy having people round for meals or for coffee. I also like being creative and I dabble in pottery, silk painting, lino prints and other crafty activities – I’m not particularly gifted but I enjoy having a go. I also love travel, and I keep in regular contact with the project and my friends in China.
So that is a little about me and my life so far – I am really excited about meeting and getting to know you and being a part of this wonderful community!
My address is:- 3 Manor barn, Norton St Philip
